FOI Music creates original soundtracks for visual stories, fashion films and monthly FOI Magazine projects. This journal documents the thinking behind that work in clear, practical language.
The idea
Listeners move between studio headphones, car systems, televisions and phone speakers. Cinematic depth can survive that journey when the emotional centre does not depend entirely on sub-bass or extreme stereo width.
A wide studio mix still has to communicate through a small speaker. For FOI Music, the purpose is always to keep the emotional meaning clear while giving the listener enough space to form a personal relationship with the work.
How the craft supports it
We check vocal presence, rhythm definition and harmonic movement in mono as well as stereo. The goal is not to make every system sound identical; it is to keep the song’s intention recognisable when the playback becomes smaller.
A strong production decision should still make sense when the visual reference is removed. Sound and image can belong to the same world without one becoming dependent on the other.
A practical way to begin
Use reference levels, take breaks and compare on ordinary devices before approving a master. If the song only feels complete on expensive headphones, the arrangement may be hiding behind the equipment.
Begin with one honest intention, test it in the real context where the work will be experienced, and remove anything that competes with that intention.
